Boiler Refractory Application & Supply
Boiler refractory is the most demanding application in industrial refractory work — exposed to thermal cycling, fly-ash erosion, corrosive atmospheres and continuous mechanical stress. M.S. Enterprises has spent three decades specialising in boiler refractory application and supply for thermal power plants, captive power generation and industrial steam generation across India.
Boiler types we line
Our crews are experienced with all major industrial boiler types deployed across Indian thermal power and process industries.
- ▸CFBC (Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion) boilers — furnace, cyclone, loop seal, refractory dip-leg
- ▸AFBC (Atmospheric Fluidised Bed Combustion) — bed coil refractory, distributor plate, freeboard
- ▸Pulverised-coal boilers — burner throats, water-wall studs, ash-hopper castable
- ▸HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) — duct lining, expansion joints, ceramic fibre insulation
- ▸Stoker-fired boilers — grate refractory, side-wall castable
- ▸Sugar mill / bagasse-fired boilers — corrosive atmosphere-resistant linings
Common boiler refractory work scope
Boiler refractory work spans new installation, periodic maintenance and emergency repair. We handle all three with the same trained crews and material supply chain.
- ▸New boiler refractory installation (greenfield projects)
- ▸Periodic relining during planned shutdowns
- ▸Bottom ash hopper castable replacement
- ▸Cyclone separator gunning
- ▸Burner block and throat refurbishment
- ▸Ceramic fibre lining for ducts and plenums
- ▸Dry-out / heat-up of new linings
- ▸Online leak sealing during operation (where applicable)
What goes wrong in boiler refractory — and how we prevent it
Boiler refractory failure modes are well-known: thermal shock cracking from improper dry-out, anchor pull-out from over-thick castable, erosion at high-velocity zones, and corrosion at low-temperature condensation zones. We address each in our procedure: graded dry-out per TDS, anchor density per drawing, abrasion-grade material at hot velocity zones, and acid-resistant grades at flue-gas exit zones.
Frequently asked questions
What is the typical refractory life in a CFBC boiler?▼
Properly installed CFBC boiler refractory typically lasts 18–36 months for the furnace water-wall coverage and 12–24 months for cyclone hot zones — significantly longer than poorly installed linings. Material quality, application density and dry-out discipline are the three critical factors.
How much shutdown time is needed for boiler refractory replacement?▼
A full furnace relining for a 60–150 MW CFBC boiler takes 12–18 days end-to-end (demolition + anchor weld + casting/gunning + dry-out). Localised gunning repair during minor shutdowns can be completed in 2–4 days. We can compress timelines using parallel work fronts when shutdown is critical.
Do you supply only material or full turnkey?▼
Both. Many plants prefer turnkey scope (material + application + dry-out + final QA report) for accountability. Others have in-house crews and just need material supply. We are flexible on scope.
